Hi Louise, Without going into too much detail the answer is no. However, depending on the route you are doing it might be a good idea to take some smaller ice screws with you than you would if you were climbing water ice. The gear you decide to take is very route dependent and many mixed routes don't require ice screws at all. You should check the guide book and asses the weather conditions to help you make your decision. Hope that helps, Dave

Hi Pollie, Have you considered using ice clippers? These are large plastic carabiners (not rated to take a fall) which you can attach to the outside of your harness and are great for racking ice screws on or attaching your tools to when you're not using them.
