If climbing is still a male-dominated sport, then wide crack climbing is the zenith of this gender disparity. However, amidst this blue-collar boys club, one woman stands out. Pamela Pack got into wide crack climbing the hard way after a debilitating forearm injury left her unable to crimp, but placed no limitations on her hand stacking skills or indeed her ability to withstand extreme amounts of pain. In this video, we join Pam during her annual pilgrimage to Vedauwoo, Wyoming, an area she returns to time and time again despite its habit of kicking her ass. After Pam and her crew have finished with the tortuous, flared classics like 'Whipping Boy' and 'Squat,' Pam faces up to the real reason that she's back in Wyoming; 'Special Relations' (5.13). Her previous attempt on this route ended when Pam was knocked unconscious, but she's not the type of person to let that put her off! However, with some of the wildest moves of any crack out there, including head jams, a sketchy invert and a dangerous finish, this climb is going to be anything but easy.
