This week, for one of the first times ever, a genuine climbing film, starring, filmed and edited by actual climbers will receive a mainstream cinematic release. 'Meru' follows Condrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk through their failed 2008 attempt on the mountain's Shark's Fin and their eventual successful ascent three years later. A shorter version of the film formed part of the 2012 Reel Rock Tour, but the new film has opened up the project to a far more mainstream audience with 'Meru' receiving the honour of official selection at Sundance. We spoke to Conrad here in Chamonix shortly after he, Jimmy and Renan made their ascent and we were able to ask him about the expedition itself, his climbing mentors and the darker side of life as an alpinist.
