In July 2013 Canadian Alpinists Raphael Slawinski and Ian Welsted completed a first ascent of the Northwest Face of K6 West in Pakistan, one of the largest unclimbed objectives in the alpine world.
The Canadian pair however almost did not even make the foot of the climb, as it was at this time that a group of terrorists attacked the base camp of Nanga Parbat killing 10 climbers and a local guide. The 2 climbers would eventually go to win the Piolet D'Or Award for 2014.
We caught up with the pair to talk through their epic ascent.
