As you may have heard last month, it seems that Nina Caprez and Sasha Deguilian had something of a disagreement over who was going to climb Orbayu, a huge 500m long route in Asturia, Spain, which has difficulties up to 8c+, maybe even 9a.
Sasha had hatched a plan to climb the line, only to get a text from Nina explaining that her and her boyfriend, Cedric Lachat, had also intended to climb the route and were going to rig it with ropes so as a film crew could document their ascent. Sasha decided to climb elsewhere but the climbing media jumped on the story and have made out that something of a feud has developed between the 2 athletes. With this in mind, we grabbed a word with Nina to get the full story.
Next, we’ve got Alex Puccio climbing her first 8B boulder problem – Top Notch, in the Rocky Mountain National Park in America. Alex has long been one of the World’s top female boulderers, with years of experience on the competition circuit and more than 20 8A+ boulder problems to her name, but she’d never managed an 8B, until now.
Top Notch was put up by Tyler Landman in 2008 and it took Alex less than 2 days to get it done, meaning that although it wasn’t her year in the competitions, there is still a lot more to come from her.
