Mina Leslie Wujastyk took a step back from the competition climbing scene earlier this year in order to focus on outdoor climbing and already it seems that the decision is paying dividends. She has become just the third British woman to climb an 8c sport climb, having done Mecca Extension at Raven Tor in England.
The route has a notourious run out as climbers tend to skip the penultimate bolt on the headwall, which makes for a nerve wracking finale. Mina found it difficult to commit to whilst working the route, and so tried to red point it from an early stage, hoping the possibility of a send would help overcome her fear.
This success could not be timed better after the recent release of her biopic documentary which follows the trials and tribulations of a year in Mina’s life, and is currently showing on the Brit Rock Film Tour.
