The best climbing shoe depends mainly on fit, your climbing ability and intended use (in other words there's no perfect shoe). There are so many variables when considering climbing shoes which make them the hardest and most personal piece of gear you'll ever buy. In my experience in the gym you tend to climb on overhanging walls with larger foot holds with rounded edges compared to outdoors. For this reason I prefer a softer moderately aggressive shoe because I usually "grab" and smear with my feet and seldom edge. I also try to avoid buying shoes for indoors and use my old worn rock shoes. They are already broken in so they fit perfectly, soft and sensitive conforming better to the foot holds and allowing you to improve your foot work. In this way I'm able to save money to buy a better shoe for climbing on the rock which is the reason I go to the gym in the first place. On the other hand if you don't mind spending the money most top competition climbers usually wear Five Ten Hiangles, La Sportiva Solutions/ Pythons and Scarpa Instinct VS's.

I prefer technical velcro closure shoes made from anti-sweat microfiber like WildClimb Pantera V
