Hi Alex, A unicore rope has been woven in a special way so that the sheath of the rope is attached to the core of the rope. If the sheath becomes damaged on a non-unicore rope, then it can slip, exposing the less durable core. This slippage should be prevented on a unicore rope. This video by Beal should hopefully explain the differences better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czhdeBrwc2s Hope that helps, Dave
