I think that simpler systems like Mammut Smart are even safer because a lot of people misuse GriGri and block it open when they are belaying!
If you know what you are doing, they're all equal I think!
I'm a big fan of Mammut Smart as well, super simple, reliable and logical to use.
in addition Mammut Smart also has Alpine version for workin with two ropes. of course if you need it.
It certainly has better marketing. Petzl have made it synonymous with "auto-locking belay."
No idea, but I've used a bog standard ATC for my whole climbing life (well, not true, cause started with a stitch plate...), and I'm not in the slightest interested in these fancy shmancy auto locking things :D

The GriGri is a perfect belay device IF you know what you are doing. Lots of climbers that do not face potential risks get "lazy" with the GriGri and thats where the problems start.
I always thought that before, but after having tried the Click Up recently it felt so much more intuitive...especially after using an ATC so often...getting excited for spring climbing
