Edu Marín Close To Completing Incredible Multi-Pitch Quadrilogy
One of the hardest multi-pitch routes in the world, 'Orbayu' (8c/5.14b) is located on the West face of Naranjo de Bulnes in Asturias, Spain, and is among a number of difficult routes Edu Marín has chosen to tackle as part of his 'Alps Project.' Earlier this month, Edu successfully linked all 13 pitches of 'Orbayu,' first climbed in 2009 by Iker and Eneko Pou. The Basque brothers estimated their line to be 8c/9a in difficulty, but the crux pitch was later downgraded to 8c by Nico Fravresse and Adam Pustelnik.
Conceived over two years ago, Edu's Alps Project is comprised of four routes; 'Orbayu' (8c), 'Digital Crack' (8a), 'La Voie Petit' (8b) and 'Sansara' (8b+). Edu now has only 'Sansara' left to complete having climbed both 'Orbayu' and the two French routes in the past month.
As with many of his ascents, Edu has been supported on the project by his father Francisco Marín, an accomplished climber in his own right. Interestingly, although Fransicso has been active on the climbing scene for a few decades, he's completed his hardest ascents after passing the age of 60.
A video from the ascent will soon be available on EpicTV as part of a feature on the project, so stay tuned for more news about Edu's progress!
